THURSDAY'S WORKOUT:
If you’ve made it this far, you’ve got a lot of information to digest, but don’t let yourself be discouraged – you’ve got to keep your eyes on the prize. And that’s a pretty good segue into the topic of motivation. In many ways, staying motivated is about having a mental “action plan” that prioritizes everything you do in terms of your goal. Every morning, before you head out the door, plot your day out and think of all the things you’re going to do to make sure your diet, exercise, and supplementation routine stays on track. Start each with the words “I will” and take it from there. If you need to write them down, don’t hesitate to grab a pen and paper. “I will make sure to take the extra time I need to make a great dinner.” “I will exercise for an hour tonight.” “I will make sure I pay special attention to my protein intake.” At the end of the day, if you haven’t checked every one of these statements off, you may need to reevaluate. If you’re consistently checking all of them off, you may want to consider adding a few more. The point is, this will give you the focus you need to stay motivated about everything you do. Also, remember when you first started the program, and what you probably had to ask yourself. “Why do I want to change?” Keep the answer to that question in mind always; whether it’s a family event, a summer vacation, or just your own well-being, this is your primary motivating factor. Ideally, that should be motivation enough to last you the course of the program. With your goals in mind, even if you have no set date, map-out a timeline and visualize yourself at the end of this journey. How will you get there? What steps will you take? Will you put it all together? What details will you need to focus on? In realizing your goals, you are rising to both physical and mental challenges, and it’s the latter that will be your strength when you seem to have reached your physical limits. And let’s not forget the strength you can draw from a personal trainer or training partner. Watch an episode of The Biggest Loser, and it’s immediately clear how important these people can be to your success. Form a support group of family, friends, and coworkers and keep them abreast of your progress. The point is, this is a long, hard journey, and there’s no need to go it alone. The best advice we can give you? No matter what works for you – you’ve got to find it and stick with it. Maybe it’s music. Maybe it’s a creative release. Maybe it’s a training partner. Or maybe you just need someone to tell you to get fired up. If that’s the case, get to it! Make it happen! Keep your eyes on the prize, and you will find success. We’re behind you every step. |
